Tryouts are an international Little League requirement. They allow the coaches who are selecting players for teams to observe their skills so that through the draft, competition is balanced to the greatest possible degree. Players should wear sneakers and bring only their baseball gloves. If you are unable to attend the tryout session in your age group, it is important to attend another session in a nearby age group so that the coaches likely to select you will be present. You can Contact Us through the web site with any questions you may have. Please note the following tryout rules:
1. All 9-12 year olds must tryout. Any player who does not try out is not eligible to (i) play in the Baseball Majors division, (ii) pitch in any game in any division, (iii) be selected for an All-Star game, (iv) be selected for any summer travel team, (v) be an upward replacement player, (vi) and is not even assured of a roster spot in any division.
2. 8 year olds have the option to try out for the Baseball Green division. Any 8 year old who does not try out will automatically be placed on a team in the Baseball Gold division.
3. 7 year olds and younger cannot try out.
4. All Baseball Majors, Baseball Blue and Baseball Green coaches sons and daughters must try out. Those sons and daughters playing on the team coached by their father or mother will be slotted in the draft by L.M.L.L. based on our assessment of their ability.
5. 10-12 year olds are eligible to be drafted into the Baseball Majors division. 9-11 year olds are eligible to be drafted into the Baseball Blue division. 8-10 year olds are eligible to be drafted into the Baseball Green division. Draft decisions on individual players are made by the coaches on draft day. Parents cannot designate which of these three divisions their child is to play in. The only exception to this rule is a parent coach designating their son or daughter to play on the parent coaches team.
6. If a 10 year old is drafted onto a Baseball Majors division team and after attending three practices wishes to move down to a Baseball Blue division team, L.M.L.L. will try its best to accommodate that request.
7. During the season, absences by players can cause teams to select players from the next division down to join them on a temporary or permanent basis. This is called an upward replacement. Any player may decline such an invitation but then becomes ineligible as an upward replacement for the rest of the season. A coaches son or daughter may be used as a temporary replacement but is ineligible as a permanent replacement.
Note: All ages referred to above are baseball ages.
